A new kind of device for school life.

Indiki™ is being developed by Rachel Watkyn OBE around a simple but urgent question: how do we protect young people from the harms of smartphones without cutting them off from safety, connection and confidence?

It is not another phone. It is not another app fighting for attention. It is being created as something different: a device designed specifically for school life, helping young people stay connected, signal how they feel and reach out when it matters most, without the noise, pressure and addictive design of traditional technology.

The problem Indiki™ is trying to solve

Schools, parents and young people are all navigating a difficult tension. On one hand, there is growing concern about the impact smartphones and social media can have on children’s attention, confidence, mental wellbeing and real-world interaction.

On the other hand, removing technology completely is not always simple. Young people still need ways to feel safe, communicate when something is wrong and stay connected to the people who support them.

This is where the conversation becomes more complicated than “phones or no phones”. The real question is whether there is a better option.

Not another smartphone

Indiki™ is not being designed to replicate the smartphone experience. It is not about giving young people another screen to scroll, another feed to compare themselves against, or another app demanding their attention.

Instead, Indiki™ is being developed as a different kind of school-life device, built around connection without the usual digital clutter. The aim is to support young people without pulling them further into the habits, pressures and distractions that many schools and families are trying to reduce.

It is about solving the problem properly, not just moving it into a shinier case.

Safety, connection and confidence

At its heart, Indiki™ is about helping young people feel safe, seen and supported during the school day.

The device is being developed to allow young people to stay connected, signal how they feel and reach out when it matters most. That could mean creating a way for students to communicate a need, express that something is not right, or feel reassured that support is available without relying on a traditional smartphone.

This matters because confidence is not built by cutting young people off entirely. It is built through the right kind of support, at the right moment, in a way that does not overwhelm them.

Restoring real-world interaction

One of the aims behind Indiki™ is to help give young people back more space for real-world interaction.

School life should not be dominated by screens, notifications and social pressure. It should include friendship, conversation, confidence, movement, focus and the freedom to be present in the room they are actually in.

Indiki™ is being developed with that idea in mind: supporting safety and connection without replacing the social, emotional and human parts of growing up.

Indiki™ is currently in development, with more details to follow as the project progresses.

At this stage, it is not about releasing every feature before the device is ready. It is about building something properly, with the care and thought the issue deserves.

More information about Indiki™ will be shared in due course.

A device designed for school life

Indiki™ is being designed specifically for young people in school settings. That makes it different from general consumer technology, which is often built for maximum engagement rather than healthy boundaries.

The aim is not to create something that competes for attention. The aim is to create something useful, considered and appropriate for the environment it is meant to serve.

Schools need practical tools. Parents need reassurance. Young people need support without unnecessary pressure. Indiki™ is being built at the centre of those needs.

Why Rachel is building Indiki™

Indiki™ fits Rachel Watkyn’s wider approach to business: spot something that is not working, question the obvious answers, then build something more useful.

Rachel has never been especially interested in doing things the standard way just because that is how they have always been done. With Indiki™, she is looking at a growing problem facing schools and families and asking whether there is a better, more human solution.

It is a new venture, but the thinking behind it is very familiar: protect people, challenge the default option and build something with purpose.

Why is Indiki™ being developed?
